Did you know … About 50% of the cost of Titanium product is related to machining?
If it weren’t for costs related to the machining process, the price of titanium might not be so high. About 50% of the costs are due to tools damaged from extremely high heat and cutting speeds as well as the time it takes to machine the titanium.
Because titanium is a poor heat conductor, the heat is transferred to the tool itself, sometimes reaching temperatures of up to 2000°. This kind of heat can destroy tools very easily; therefore, slower speeds and coolant is necessary in order to preserve the life of the tools and cut costs.
